Doppler Effect Wavelength Front Calculator |
The Doppler effect or shift is the change in frequency of a wave moving relative to its source.
The animation below shows the Doppler effect causes a siren to sound lower when it is receding than when it is approaching in pitch.
Wavelength in Front of a Moving Source: λf=(v-us) / f0
where f0 = Source Frequency, us = Source Velocity, v = Wave Velocity, λf = Wavelength in Front of a Moving Source.
For example, when Wave Velocity(v) = 10m/s, Source Velocity(us) = 2 m/s, Source Frequency(f0) = 55Hz, then Wavelength in Front of a Moving Source(λf) = 0.15m.
